Monday, September 3, 2018 - NO SCHOOL LABOR DAY

Tuesday, September 4, 2018 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL (28 Minute Classes on this Date w/Homeroom)

Course Introduction:  Students will receive the course syllabus and begin going over the class rules and policies.

Assignment:  Course Syllabus Parent Signature Page - Due Monday, September 10, 2018.

Wednesday, September 5, 2018 - Homeroom Schedule

Current Events:  CNN 10 Student News

Course Introduction:  Students will finish going over the course syllabus and covering the class rules and policies.

Activity:  Students will receive their Quarter 1 Oops Coupons and we will share how these can be used in class.

District Assessment:  Students will be taking the Social 7 District Assessment to determine current student knowledge and understanding of American History.  This is an ungraded test and will be taken again at the end of the school year to determine student academic growth.

Assignment:  Create a class quizlet account. (https://quizlet.com/join/4sUCsJTAP)  This is due by Monday, September 10, 2018.

Assignment: Study for Quiz #1 on Monday, September 24, 2018.  This quiz will cover this week’s current events as well as content material covering the Declaration of Independence and the 14 Principles of Democracy.

  1. I can name and describe the six goals of the Constitution as listed in the preamble.
  2. I can name the five basic principles of the Constitution. (7.1.4.7.1 and 7.1.4.8.1)
  3. I can describe how the system of checks and balances operates. (7.1.4.7.1)
  4. I can describe the formal process of amending the Constitution. (7.1.4.8.2)
  5. I can explain the purpose of the Bill of Rights and key amendments. (7.1.4.8.1) and (7.1.4.8.2)
  6. I can list citizen’s rights and responsibilities. (7.1.3.6.1 and 7.1.3.6.2)
  7. I can name three practices that responsible citizens are expected to do: (1) becoming informed on current events, (2) advocating upon an informed decision, and (3) voting. (7.1.3.5.1)

AssignmentU.S. Constitution Review Worksheet Packet - Students should complete Part 1 Vocabulary - constitution, federalism, general welfare, domestic tranquility, justice, Articles of Confederation, liberty, Bill of Rights, representative government, and popular sovereignty.  Students should also complete Part 2 and Part 3 covering Goals of the Constitution, and Separation of Powers/Branches of Government.  This is due on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

Test:  Students will be taking their Unit One tests in class on this date covering Americas Founding Documents.  This will cover the Declaration of Independence, The U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Principles of Democracy.

Assignment: Study for Quiz #2 on Monday, October 1, 2018.  This quiz will cover this week’s current events as well as content material covering the U.S. Constitution.
